Don Sinkfield, the founder became one of the first 3000 people licensed as a mental health counselor in New York State, started providing mental health services in Valley Stream in 2010.
Don possessed at an early age the unique gift of a sophisticated set of interpersonal skills. Which made him astute at sensing what other people are thinking and feeling. His ability to relate to others with warmth and acceptance, empathy, and a focus on others made him the most sought out therapist. By 2014, he had a small but strong team and formed Help To Adjust Inc.
Don’s desire to increase mental health equity in communities of color propelled him to expand. In 2020, Don Sinkfield created a partnership with Clinton Clovis to establish “The New Hope Mental Health Counseling Services.” Which has become a large practice with over 60 employees, serving hundreds of individuals, families, and couples weekly. Help To Adjust continued to operate as its “sister” clinic focusing on advocacy, training, psychoeducation in addition to counseling.
Help To Adjust Don recognizes the importance of removing the barriers that Black people experience getting access to or staying connected with emotional health care and healing. Many mental conditions are being triggered as a result of the coronavirus, the economic crisis and repeated racist incidents and death impacting communities of color disproportionately more than their counterparts.
This call to action to provide continued mental health services to communities of color inspired Don to reinvigorate the clinic that brought great services to communities of color. Connecting individuals with culturally competent clinicians committed to promoting the growth and healing of diverse communities through therapy is of the utmost importance. Help To Adjust will serve alongside,The New Hope as a smaller yet dynamic provider of excellent services.
